Dolphin Tour

The shallow coastal waters around Kizimkazi have been favored by dolphins for many years because the area offers a reliable food supply and is a good place to nurse calves or simply to rest and socialize. Here you are able to observe these wonderful creatures and if you are lucky you can even swim with them. Two species of dolphins are residents all year around, the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin and the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin. The bottlenose dolphin is more sociable and more widely observed, whereas the humpback dolphin is a shyer creature. Studies conducted have revealed that there are about 150 bottlenose and 60 humpback dolphins inhabiting the area
The increasing Tourism has now created new job opportunities for the local villagers. Contrary to the practices of other fishing communities in the Indian Ocean, the fishermen of Kizimkazi are very protective of the dolphins and no longer hunt them. The economic rewards from conservation have been experienced; nevertheless it is not uncommon to see a group of beleaguered dolphins being chased byseveral boats of tourists.
It is important to realize that sightings cannot be guaranteed and swimming with the dolphins is a rare occurrence. Observing dolphins in their natural environment, as with other animals, requires time and patience.
